Tommaso: Like you, I think this one will hurt a bunch and do a great deal of damage, once it gets underway. This credit binge has been taken to extremes that are "historic", so the back side of it is as likely to be "historic" as well. Personally, I will be very happy if the Dow only sinks to 4000. It could go much below that, given the excesses now built into the markets. The credit managers at most brokerage houses are nervous as cats in a kennel. Don't blame them, given the margin levels.
