Dell can be a good buy at $40 and still have the stock go down. Why? because many institutions were smart or lucky enough to buy large amounts of shares at rediculously low prices a few years ago. None of that is profit unless they turn it into cash. These fund managers now have 10 or 20 times more Dell than they ever planned. In many cases they didn't have the cash to chase some high flying internet or something, and I think for the most part they are not patient people.

One of these days they will have raised the cash to follow their new dreams and Dell will continue it's growth. The stock price is mostly just supply and demand and the supply of stock put up for sale will decline once those who want to use their profit have finished. There will then be a new base who are more willing to wait a few years.
