Re: . I believe that even if DELL did an excellent job in this space, these units would go out at substantially less Gross Margin than the current desktop line, which is already putting margin pressure on DELL's finance.

Nice try dog, but your assertion is unsubstantiated.

What are DELL's gross margin's in the desktop market? Do you Know? If you do not know then you have no reason to assert that they are pressured. <LOL>

Oh... and what about the efficiency of manufacturing batches of products that are all alike being more inventory efficient than DELL's BTO. I suppose that CPQ has not had any inventory problems.

It does not bother you, that DELL's inventory management is the best in the industry and CPQ's is the worst. Give us all a break from this cynicism.

This is palpable BS that you are spewing.

<<Well established patterns in consumer buying trends going back years say that most buyers in this category (more than 80%) would rather get a "package" which meets most of their needs than "roll their own", especially if they get a better price by taking the deal. Unlike corporations which purchase volumes of machines and can amortize the configuration costs over many units (or roll up the savings from having DELL do that configuration), most consumers are buying only one or at most 2 machines. A package which includes most of the features and software which these users expect, and has a good "out of box" experience, will win if the price is right. >>

rudedog: DELL is THE MOST EFFICIENT producer of consumer PCs and that will not change. It may actually improve since DELL continues to increase its buying power. DELL's entire Nashville operation will be designed to supply the expected growth in the consumer market. Yet, look for DELL to market a high quality computer, peripherals, and ISP service together in new and innovative ways. Virtual integration will help DELL accomplish this. Watch for some MAJOR new partnerships. IMO, the competitors could be under real pressure soon -- as DELL ramps up their new initiatives. They will motivate consumers to start with DELL and stay with DELL. Again, the goal is to own the customer relationship. Stay tuned.

Best Regards,

Scott
