The Euro was a rummy currency from the get go. Only as good as the sum of the parts. Several of the euro countries are a joke. I always thought Euro would disappear when next recession hit. I think it may vanish sooner.

ECB cut rates because the economy was weak. They were not interested in catering to short-term speculators as the IMF forced the SEA countries to do resulting in a severe recession there.

Did you check the inflation figures in the USA in the early 80's and compare it with the inflation figures with the EU today? My guess is that you didn't.

More importantly, what about budget deficits as percentage of GDP in the USA in the '80s and in EU today?
