Jack,

<Where is the article I read some time back where they hired a firm to put together a M&A deal? Does anyone have the story or a link to it? It's about time, I think, for something along those lines to come together, if it is going to happen.

Thanks in advance,

<Cabletron Systems Hires Merrill Lynch To Find Buyer (CS) - Report
Newstraders - January 06, 1999 09:55
(NewsTraders.com)-- Cabletron Systems (CS) has hired Merrill Lynch (MER) to find a buyer for the No. 4 computer networking company, according to the New York Post.

Highlights:

- A source told the Post that the company is hoping to fetch $2.5 billion, or a 66% premium to its current market value.

- Speculation that the company would make a move caught fire the past week after Tucker Anthony analyst William Becklean predicted Cabletron would be acquired within five years. Cableton's co-founder and CEO Craig Benson responded by telling the Boston Globe that the company wasn't for sale.

- Officials at both companies declined to comment on any possible deal.
