Well my man...do we wait for the pp draws to make our
pick(s)... In the past, with smaller fields, this race
(even at 12fs - has been stolen on the lead). Woody
Stevens - won 5 consecutive Belmont's with horses that
HAD NOT STARTED in the DERBY. (I think A. Jerkins must
be considered in ANY BIG RACE.)
Your take?
Best,
Don

BELMONT PICKS.....................

As we all know - the Belmont is the most interesting race
of the three for several factors: distance, track itself,
usually the presence of new faces, and the possible pace
scenarios...making it more of a "jockey's race" than either
the Derby or Preakness. This is THE ONE that the breeders
want. That being said, let's look at the logical contenders -
CHARISMATIC - off the previous, he deserves the favorites
mantle. MENIFFEE - has yet to prove he is better than top
one, and may be regressing a tad. Can't dismiss however.
SILVERBULLITDAY - top notch gal. Last within one second
of track record (and Gary hand rode her at the end). She is
a likely pace factor (perhaps 2nd for the first mile of so,
then taking command at top of lane as Jerry attempts to
"steal home"). (Sure, I know, fillies vs. colts adage - but
this isn't just any filly and the male group appear ordinary).
BEST OF LUCK - the "new face". Just won a graded race, over
this track (albeit listed "muddy"). Same jock. H. A. Jerkins
is a "hall of fame" trainer ("The Giant Killer"). Horse has
not been raced to death either. Comes "from out of it" in the
past, but could have an impact late......the rest all seem over
matched and outclassed. Don't see any values here, so bet
accordingly.
Best,
Don
