INTC has one sort of good trading day, and the thread is back in denial.

Who's really in denial here?

S- I'm just working with the publically stated data here. Intel ASPs have been pretty stable over a long period of time (actually its amazing that the model has been this consistent when you consider the complexity of managing a dozen or so line items with a continuous process of price reductions and new line item intros superimposed onto a market with seasonal trends, macro-economic upheavals, competitive offerings and increasing segmentation)

Even with all these variables, ASPs only wiggle around. I have never seen them come anywhere close to anything resembling a "spiral", "plummet", "rocket", "race", "crater", "explode" or any other extreme descriptor.

You can believe what you want.

regards,
jh

<PIII prices have been falling about 30% per month since their introduction, two months ago.>

Your watch, calendar, computer, etc. must be slow. The Pentium III was introduced three months ago, February 28, 1999. Or did you forget how close June was?

As for 30% monthly discounts, prove it. The Pentium III 500 MHz started at about $750 at its introduction. Now it's selling for $460, a 40% drop over three months, or a 15% monthly drop. More importantly, the new 550 MHz speed grade is already out, in volumes, at a starting price of $750.

Seems to me that ASP is holding steady. Looks to me like only one person on this thread is in denial.
