DSL vs. Cable Feeding the High-Speed Hunger
Timothy Laehy, Vice President, CFO, Treasurer, COVAD COMMUNICATIONS GROUP
Interviewed by George S. Mack

Technology is advancing, and we're seeing costs come down. We're replacing the dial-up modem with new DSL axis multiplexers that allow very high-speed transmission over existing copper phone lines. I would say in the next 12 months or so, you'll be able to go to a [TANDY CORP (TAN)] Radio Shack [outlet] and buy a computer with a DSL chip right on the motherboard. DSL technology is going to be very inexpensive to use.

[TIA] Is there a big demand for DSL service?
