Autobytel.com shares rose 47 percent after the online automobile- dealer referral service said it's generating more than $24 million in daily sales of cars and light trucks.

Autobytel.com climbed 7.3750 to close at 23.1250 trading of 7.7 million shares after the company announced its per-day revenue for the first time. Earlier, the shares touched 24.25.
The company's site refers customers to auto dealers, who pay Autobytel.com a monthly fee for the service. While the $24 million doesn't represent Autobytel.com's own revenue, the total is an indication of customer interest in the site. Autobytel.com competes with Autoweb.com and Microsoft's CarPoint.

"This validates that Autobytel.com is still the leader,'' said Midtown Research Group analyst Udita Malhoutra, who rates its shares a "buy.''

Sorry - just passing on what NASDAQ is reporting - they show actual loss as being 20% greater than consensus (negative) ...

Just goes to show - don't trust the numbers - they can be used for whatever purpose is intended ...

especially in PRs!

Mike

p.s. sdheart - what do you think about the lack of profits in ABTL for at least 4 years? For such amazingly sounding numbers in the PR it sure comes as a shock to me that the analysts don't expect these numbers to be turned into profits until at least 2002, probably 20003 or later. Between now and 4 years from now, I would expect lots of additional shares being issued to make up for the lack of profits, wouldn't you?
