Under some heavy diplomatic/economic pressures, Montenegro secedes from Belgrade, driving right away Milosevic to launch a coup. At this point, the US will effortlessly convince the other NATO members that such an anti-democratic outrage on the part of Milosevic deserves... a ground intervention!

Seems a reasonably credible scenario from the American perspective, but I can't see the Montenegrans playing along, as they would surely take a major beating. I'm sure they would rather see NATO fight Milosevic in Kosovo than in Montenegro.

Seems like a viable scenario to me as well.. Certainly mixes up the political salad a bit.

Funny how you bring up Montenegro and I posted some comments about their situation as well today before I read your post. The interesting thing about the indictments is that the tribunal is empowered through the UN and incorporated a panel of DIVERSE judges.

So should we take it that the UN was willing to indict Milosevic, yet "something" was preventing them from pursuing a peacekeeping mission?? Might that "something" be Moscow and Bejing playing their political games that are obstructionist to peace??

This may get really interesting....
