Microsoft invests in Nextel
RESTON, Va., May 28 (Reuters) - Software giant Microsoft Corp. has acquired a 4.25 percent stake in the wireless phone company Nextel Communications Inc. for $600 million, Nextel said Friday.

Plans for the investment were announced earlier this month.

The investment gives Microsoft a bigger presence in the emerging market for wireless Internet and data services.

Nextel said in a statement that Microsoft acquired about 16.67 million Nextel shares at the agreed price of $36 each. As part of the deal, Nextel customers will be able to use Microsoft's MSN Internet services.

Nextel said it would use the $600 million to speed up its wireless Internet
