This is good news. Chip scale packaging (CSP) has been frequently cited as a negative cost factor for Rambus. In fact the industry expects CSP to "crossover" by the end of this year to become the least expensive packaging. It also has more promise of future cost reductions than does TSOP packaging. See Electronic News 5/17/99. electronicnews.com Toshiba made a related announcement regarding packaging costs. See EE Times 5/10/99 eet.com It would appear that another obstacle is falling.
