All, I found a very interesting web site glocall.com that provides coverage maps and a call rate calculator for Iridium that provides per minute rates for calls between any two countries. Rates are mostly in the 5-6$/minute range. Glocall is apparently a Netherlands based Iridium (and Inmarsat) service provider. The coverage map is very interesting; it shows Iridium coverage vs cellular in pretty fine detail around the world. The extent of (claimed) no-cellular coverage is pretty impressive. It also shows countries where Iridium does not provide coverage (isn't licensed), which include Mexico(!) and Poland, among other, smaller, countries. I'd like to see a similar site for G* soon!
