Don' t you think that economic sanctions have played a critical role in this? The Serbs perceive the West has been out to destroy them...the ridiculous indictment of its leadership pretty much puts a stamp on it<g>

And why do you think they perceive this?? Milosevic's regime has seen the Serbian economy contract over 60% since he took charge. Corruption and financial misbehavior has run rampant as he has excluded ethical advisors and surrounded himself with criminal personalities like Arkan.

Milo has tried to sell the Serbs on this conspiracy theory of the west trying to destroy Serbia as a distraction from his disastrous policies and corruption. It is propaganda, that in the absence of political opposition, becomes the "truth".

The west HAS NOTHING TO GAIN from destroying Yugoslavia along ethnic lines. Instead of having a vibrant trading partner as Slovenia and Croatia are becoming, we have to deal with this genocidal Bullsh*t, spend money and diplomatic time trying to get people who used to live together pretty well, to stop persecuting one another.

Tell me one thing that NATO or Europe has to gain from this situation in the Balkans.

Economic sanctions against Serbia came about due to their abuse of power against other ethnicities. Milo's army had the heavy artillery and aircraft and he sought to use them to get his way and become the dominant power in the Balkans, at the expense of anyone who got in his way.

Think about it a minute. Who had the tanks and weaponry to dominate and coerce their neighbors? The Croats? The Bosnians? The Kosovars?

Regards,

Ron
