Rugova was the man to deal with as he would have settled for autonomy, not complete independence. Milo's intransigence towards seeking a political settlement is what radicalized the Kosovo population>>>

Ron since you can't possibly believe this nonsense why press it? You must be more profound than that...
Surely you know that Tito held (barely) this region with tight fist ..
Surely you know that regardless of the new leader Yugo federation was doomed, and never mind that Milo terribly mishandled everything nationalistic fervor, Albanian including was out of the bottle...
Balkans do not need to be trivialised, history speaks for itself, Milo, like Gingrich, just convinient targets

> Great... Your solution is to give people who held industrial jobs, or own their own
farms, jobs flipping burgers at Burger King.
The last time I checked, the pay level received for these kinds of jobs is FAR
BELOW what is required to support a family, nevermind the fact that I have
enough difficulty understanding the people who work there already. English is a nice
ability to possess when dealing in the service economy.

I am not assuming much, all I am assuming is that most of them will JUMP on the chance to get to the US and make minimum wage...of course the more educated ones will find suitable jobs rather quickly. As far as supporting a family...don't worry there are a lot of good hearted people who will help them here. This is the only possible way to achieve real peace, all Albanians out or all Serbs are nuked/carpet bombed....all the other possible solutions at this point are pretty awful and will be for decades/centuries....the Balkans my friend!

> Don't forget, George, that the KLA was a marginal political presence at best until'97-98 when Serb repression of Kosovars rose in intensity.

KLA was and is a terrorist organization with the goal of gaining independence for Kosovo and one day uniting all Albanians under a "Greater Albania". They got lots of guns when their brothers in Albania turned their country into a chaotic anarchic circus. Serb forces mainly reacted to protect ALL citizens in Kosovo from indiscrimante terrorist attacks. All the rest you hear is propaganda crap, you hear it over and over that the masses start believing this crap...

> These nations are far less strong under separate economies than they could have been under one integrated one. That's a fact.

This area was an economic basketcase, now it is a bombed out basketcase. The ones who suffer are the innocent civilians...

George
