Hardly,
Darn! That program has been fail safe for me for years. The only time I had a problem with it was when I tried to use Netscape Navigator. I bet you the firewall may be the problem. I was really hoping you would be able to demo it. But obviously something went wrong.

Anyhow, your post sure summed up quite nicely the thin-client/fat server game. It's almost exactly as I see it today. Funny comment about how HTML has taken over the world. That can't be argued. So Oracles 8i approach is viable for sure. But did they execute? Only the real world reviews will let us know that one.

And your comment about applications not being able to be HTML based hits home too. That is the biggest plus for Citrix's ICA(Independent Computer Architecture). I mean deployment of today's ERP apps is almost instantaneous without any massive team of engineers re-vamping it a la Oracle 8i.

If you review this post at:

It gives you an idea of why I think, what you call "X-Windows" (I believe ICA is an old X-Windows-like project), is going to be so great for the Application Service Provider (ASP) market. Or thin-client/fat server market for that matter. Same thing really.

You did a reply to my post on the Oracle thread that I didn't quite understand. I think I make the same type of comment in my link above. It concerned deploying ERP Apps via a Java operating system versus a Citrix ICA operating system. This may have some interest to you if you get a chance to read over my post. Maybe you can punch holes in it. I was looking for someone to do just that.

Appreciate you trying to get the demo to run. I'm very discouraged it didn't work for you instantly. Maybe if there is a Citrix employee reading this, they can tell us why it didn't work.
Thanks,
MikeM(From Florida)

the demo won't work through your firewall unless the firewall explicitly allows the ica protocol to pass. i forget the port number ica uses.

don't be misled into thinking that the firewall issue constitutes a problem with citrix technology. that's what firewalls are for. passing ica is a sysadmin/security issue. the firewall will pass anything you like.

i recently tried the demo via my 28.8kbps modem. i used word and excel. it worked flawlessly. the performance was much better than rdp - which i use regularly from the same box over the same modem.

My guess is that the problem is that the demo (as written) doesn't work through a firewall
