Of course, there is nothing to prevent both. If you do have MP then it is also a good idea to have each processor have high performance too.

However, I think that multiple CPU's in a computer (multiprocessing) is ultimately more efficient than attempting to run multiple micro-threads in a single CPU

Which is why Intel will not be able to kill their own x86 beast so easily.
