FSESX up 1.5% today versus 0.9% for OSX. This kind of strong FSESX outperformance on the upside very unusual.

HOUSTON: The U.S. Gulf of Mexico offshore rig count posted a strong week-to-week increase, according to Offshore Data Services' weekly mobile offshore rig count.

The Gulf of Mexico rig count recorded a seven rig increase compared to last week, and now stands at 121. The 180-rig Gulf drilling fleet's utilization rate is 67.2 percent. The region's offshore rig count has posted a net nine-rig increase over the last month, and this upward trend is expected to continue in June.

Gary

The BHI web site says rig count available by phone at noon CDT on Fridays. I called about 15 minutes after that and got them and posted the numbers so they were available 3 hours before the close. I was surprised how much later the web site is actually updated....at least 3 hours today.

The problem is whether we should be following the ODS count of rigs under contract or the BHI count of rigs actually working. ODS usually 10-20 higher in the GOM. BD says that the industry follows ODS since it is considered a better barometer of business activity while I would guess the street may follow BHI more closely since it is older and better known. They don't always move in sync. When BD said +7 in the Gulf, he was talking about rigs under contract. Now that we know he has inside info, on Thursday night he is gonna hear.."How many, Big, how many ?" <ggg>

No API numbers until Wed night because of holiday plus we should remember that next weeks numbers will only cover thru today...the full effect of holiday driving won't be shown until June 8. Thats when I expect OPEC cuts and higher demand to show up in big drawdowns both here and overseas.
