The Hartman case reminds me of the old "Prozac Defense". At one time, there were numerous cases where the defendant tried to blame his violent behavior (or family member tried to blame suicide) on Prozac. As far as I know, not a single case was successful, as there is no scientific evidence supporting Prozac causing an increase in destructive behavior. In fact, the medical evidence supports the opposite. Zoloft is very similar to Prozac in its mechanism of action and side effect profile. There is no medical evidence or scientific studies suggesting that Zoloft causes an increase in violent behavior. I agree, it will likely be thrown out of court.
