You may want to make this inquiry to "engineer" who posts on the "Qualcomm - Coming Into Buy Range" thread. He and several others over there are very knowledgeable on the technical details of cell phones.

Can someone (a HW designer) comment specifically on power consumption?

DRAM's generally consume much less power than SRAM's. DRDRAM offers the advantage of a small pin count, but you would not want to run it at high MHz in a cell phone, because power consumption goes up with MHz.
