AOL, Lycos, GO gain in Nielsen weekly Web ratings
Three of the top five networks of Web sites showed slight gains in audience in the latest Nielsen/NetRatings (NMR: news, msgs) report. AOL's percentage of active Net users rose to 40 percent, from the previous report's 39.7 percent. The balance of the top four Web properties: Yahoo (YHOO: news, msgs), 30.8 percent vs. 31.2 percent; MSN, 27.5 percent vs. 27.3 percent; Lycos, 18.1 percent vs. 17.2 percent, and GO Network, 13.6 percent to 13.0 percent.

The Nielsen/NetRatings report for the week ending May 23 also reported the average Web user spent about 23 minutes on each site visited. The average time spent viewing a Web page was 1 minute 20 seconds.
