Around here we just throw them back, depending on how hungry you are.
A few years back I totally restored a 1965 boat and just kept it in a covered wet dock on the lake that's a half mile from me. 2 years of operating it and there was never a fishing pole on the thing, only the stereo, TV etc. It's hard to explain how calming it can be to toss anchor in the middle of the lake, crank up the music and watch the sailboats.
The big Merc engine was nice but I wasn't on the lake to waterski.

Finally sold it, wish I hadn't.
