I suppose that c/c++ has already been extended by Intel/HP/Microsoft/others to provide things like statements in the source to cause prefetching and movement of cache lines in the memory hierarchy.

Are you implying that the compiler will have an architectural memory simulator built into it? That sounds pretty interesting....
