Lake Davis Northern Pike Watch

(PORTOLA, CA) -- After two northern pike were found in Lake Davis,
Fish and Game officials say they'll use scuba divers to look for more
of the non-native fish. Officials say they'll also continue to use
electrical pulses to temporarily stun and collect fish in deep areas
of the Plumas County lake. In the next few days, a screen will be
installed at the Lake Davis Dam to prevent any fish from escaping
downstream. Lake Davis was poisoned in 1997 in an effort to eradicate
northern pike. The controversial move cost the Portola community
Millions in tourist dollars.

1) I didn't put them there.<g>
2) The Northern Pike is a US favorite fighting fish.
3) It is not a scavenger, is good eating (a favorite of DMA).
4) Why spend money on poison? Just scares away the tourists. A far
better way to rid the lake would be to open it for for free fishing,
all the Pike you can take away.
