Re: "My guess is that MSFT is worried about the gamesystems ruling the world of low end internet access. So they may very well at some point enable a gaming platform with the 64 bit chip "

Kash,

I don't know the game system industry, but your post sure looks interesting. My guess is MS would keep its eye on the game industry and jump in. Their corporate mission is to get MS OS everywhere, no matter what shape or form it takes to get it there. And they are pretty consumer marketing savvy about knowing home consumer (e.g. children & teenagers) trends because of their mission to get MS OS everywhere and anywhere. They'll be aggressive right when they need to be.

Thanks for the good read - especially your intuition on MS's recognition of the importance of the game industry and how this could possibly influence who "rules the low-end Internet access" world (and even migrate upstream.) Also, liked your analysis re: lowering margins and the two different competing ways to go about doing this (i.e. AOL dumping MS OS vs. MS using a low-cost CPU.) I imagine Intel will be prepared with next year releases. The only part I didn't get is: isn't Phillips using the MediaGX chip? I thought Hughes is using Intel's chip and Philips is using MediaGX (or, did the earlier PR have it backwards?)
Thanks,
Amy J
