Last time I serve pearls in a vegetable salad! No wonder the oil and red wine vinegar dressing didn't help!!

Real pearls are commonly said to be made up largely of calcium carbonate which is attacked by acetic acid (in vinegar) and oxidized ethanol (in wine exposed to the atmosphere). As an experiment, I am dropping two (small) pearls in vinegar (out of the bottle), and one in wine (out of the box). One of the vinegar pearls has been drilled for stringing, so the vinegar can reach the non glossy CaCO3. I will report periodically on the results. My guess is the drilled pearl will dissolve quite rapidly (several hours), and I will see small bubbles of CO2 in the drill hole almost immediately. I expect the undrilled pearl to take some hours before it starts to dissolve, but once through the lustrous skin I expect things to proceed rapidly, maybe a catching up with drilled pearl. The wine pearl I expect to take several days to start dissolving.
Anyone who wishes to join me in this experiment is welcome.
