Title: Quitting Too Soon OR The seventh prayer
Scripture: ...Elijah climbed to the top of Carmel, bent down to the ground and put his face between his knees. "Go and look toward the sea," he told his servant. And he went up and looked. "There is nothing there," he said. Seven times Elijah said, "Go back."
I Kings 18:42-43
It hadn't rained in Israel for several years. Drought. Elijah was the point man---King Ahab and Queen Jezebel blamed him and his "God."
After a dramatic encounter with the prophets of Baal---Elijah decided to "agree with God" and pray down some rain.
A) Elijah prayed
It wasn't some "Now I lay me down to sleep" prayer, it was earnest,
fervent prayer---he put his face between his knees he was
desperate for a break through from the drought.
He sent his servant to the sea to see---to see if any clouds were
a brewing.
B) Elijah stayed
Where did Elijah stay? On his knees!!!
He sent his servant a second time---same report back---nothing.
He sent his servant a third time, a fourth, a fifth---nothing.
Time to quit. I've been in earnest, I've given it "my best shot"
and nothing has happened. Perhaps tomorrow, next week, or next
month. But no---
C) Elijah Conveyed
What did he convey? He wasn't 'aquittin.
So he sent his servant the sixth time. Nothing.
Again he 'sez "GO BACK" to the servant for the seventh time. And
The seventh time the servant reported, "A cloud as small as a man's hand is rising from the sea." So Elijah said, "Go and tell Ahab, 'Hitch up your chariot and go down before the rain stops you.'"
Meanwhile, the sky grew black with clouds, the wind rose, a heavy rain came on and Ahab rode off to Jezereel."

Application
Far too many times we have come up short in our prayers. We have need to pray that seventh prayer with our face between our knees.
An old song I use to sing years ago: "Pray 'til the victory comes, pray 'til the victory comes, pray through, pray through, and the fire will fall upon you."
Whether we are praying for rain---fire---healing---knowing God---knowing truth---for wisdom---whatever, let's pray the seventh prayer . Never quit, never give up. It was while praying the seventh prayer God, sent a simple man, with a simple message and subsequently, God spared my wife's life. Pray the seventh prayer!
