I think a lot of people realize that the game for ETV revolves around retention of those trial members and the coming months should give an idea as to whether or not people will pay for the service.

ETV's premise for using the Netmarket as a basis for their fee overlay was that people indeed have paid and will pay for Netmarket memberships. Since ETV has a zillion customers anyway, they think they can leverage them into a proven (Netmarket) model.

The proof in the pudding will be whether the people who buy infomercial products are the same types of people who would join Netmarket. It has been ETV's experience that their customer base is very widely based on terms of socioeconomic status - depending on the infomercial items they have for sale. Thus, they do not think this is a stretch in terms of an appropriate market. In addition to computer Netmarket, their is a catalog available for those without computers and web access.
