Bill, for an example where the east took an American technology you need not look farther than Ampex in Video, and Display technology in general. Still, I think that VLNC can keep ahead of the crowd since the assembly of these batteries does not require a lot of labor, nor does it involve multi disciplined manufacturing and assembly where the East excels.

I think it is more of a tactic of being close to the market they are going to serve and still getting some of that cake.

Why do you assume that they've been unsuccessful with American manufacturers? That would require confidential information. None of the people on this board can say with any certainty with whom they've been negotiating. In fact, that's long been a subject of much speculation here.

I do agree with your statement that "they are not particularly creative" and that they use reverse engineering to copy whatever they deem useful to profits.
