VMIX-an interesting new one, had news after the bell on Friday.

Friday May 28, 06:01 PM Eastern time
Company Press Release
Distribution North America Announces Exclusive U.S. Distribution Agreement with Matador Records
WOODLAND, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 28, 1999--Distribution North America (DNA), a division of Valley Media, Inc. (Nasdaq:VMIX), announced today an exclusive U.S. distribution agreement with Matador Records.

Matador had formerly been distributed via EMI Music Distribution for its co-releases with Capitol Records, and via ADA, Caroline, Revolver, as well as by the audio wholesale division of Valley for its independent releases. Matador will continue selling directly to tastemaker independent stores across the country. Matador ended its joint venture with Capitol Records on April 1, departing with 100 of the company and all masters and artists except for Liz Phair.

At Matador's offices in New York, co-president Chris Lombardi said, "Matador is truly excited to be back in the indie fold once again. DNA's experienced and committed staff will help Matador to grow in these challenging times for music companies. An established independent record label working with an accomplished indie distributor, coupled with Valley Media's connections to online retail, will allow Matador to navigate successfully through the uncharted waters of music distribution into the new millennium."

From Matador's London offices, co-president Gerard Cosloy commented, "Historically, Matador's most profitable releases have gone through independent distribution. We're looking forward to continuing that tradition with an intelligent new partner." He added, "The best thing about being independent again is that I still have all my old clothes from the last time."

DNA General Manager Jim Colson adds, "The Matador deal is important to DNA and Valley Media because it contributes to our process of gaining additional critical mass in the musical genres in which Matador excels. We also look forward to working with Matador in developing new artists and in their new areas of focus, such as hip hop. Matador has a first rate, professional staff, and their past successes are reflective of that high level of quality."

1998 was Matador's most exciting year to date, featuring breakthrough successes by newer signings such as Cornelius, Cat Power, Boards of Canada and Belle and Sebastian as well as records from established acts such as The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. The past six months have seen releases from electronic artists Pole, Jega and burger/ink, as well as the label's first hip hop signing, the Arsonists. In September 1999, Matador will celebrate its tenth anniversary, with showcases in New York and London and a CD box set celebrating the label's history and diversity.

Distribution North America is a division of Valley Media, Inc., a recognized leader in full-line entertainment wholesale distribution, Internet retail fulfillment, independent music distribution and proprietary database products and publications. Valley Media operates facilities in seven states with primary distribution centers in Louisville, KY, and its Woodland, CA, corporate headquarters. Judy, I know the post was meant for OJ but since 75% of my own personal earnings plays (the ones I choose to play from the list) are in options I would say about 75% Earnings Plays are options if not more.. and about 75% of the watch list plays are optionable. The point of the earning plays (i.e. MDT,NTAP,TOM,NEON,INTU) is to be able to plays 2-4 at one time without laying out an exorbitant amount of money. ADCT,CA, plays were both in options, as were MACR, INTU (half & half), CMGI,..

We do however have a certain amount of 'newer' stocks like USIX, CATT, TERN, PAX, RIMM, SCNT, SRNA, NMR that are NOT optionable but they make up about 15-20% of the entire database. Usually within a short time the CBOE would declare options in these plays as well. That has been the case in the past. The watch lists 'choices' are made up from the highest volatile stock group as volatility is one of the criteria of the searches. And the Internet sector (with all its interconnected sectors telecommunications, etc) is represented in at least 25% of every watch list.

Also a good deal of our subscribers are NOT newbies, but some have probably a decade more of experience than I do in the financial field but from another angle (full service brokers from brokerages with limited choices of stock picks) or traders looking to save some time, and individual investors/professionals also looking for something 'new'..

Hello JJ....

nice to see you here on MGems...super nice group of hard working traders...

i think you're making a smart move joining MG, research & such is so time consuming nowadays..here Jenna has it down pat...

as for options...more and more i'm moving away from them longer term...i'm thinking short...short options..short stocks..in time frame...it's better..

as for selections??? i would take several Earnings Plays 1-2 weeks before the date, and buy ITM(in the money) calls...and sellthem 1-2 days "BEFORE" the actual earnings announcement...OR--when you get 50-100% profit...getting 50% or 100% profit on Option trades is a big number...hard to do...but be quick and nimble...

also you can do options for 1-2 day trades catching bounces off support and such..you have to buy ITM's to get full value for the trade...80% of "ALL" OTM(out of the money) options expire worthless...trust me, i'm a living expamle of that...many times over..

while we here are not basically daytraders...it has become evident to me..that this is exactly what i'm becoming..1-2-3 days max...

i like this hit & run style...not for 1/4's and 1/2's..but for 3-5-10 points in a stock trade...this is powerful stuff...it's more than quick money..it depends on your bankroll, and your risk tolerance...

shares are safer than options..although obviously the leverage is there with puts/calls..i'm liking the feel of trading shares...especially using Jennas picks from her Watch List..i do my own TA using P&F(Point & Figure Charting) on every stock in that list everyday...i set alerts on price and volume, and then look to trade those stocks that "ring my bell"<g>....works for me...

BTW i see your rumaging around on QCharts...i need help..i'm not using this fabulous tool to my best advantage...so lets talk about everything we can, along with SF and others as how best to grasp all these wonderful tools...

anyway..welcome...you'll never regret this decision...

BTW FWIW...there's another Judy that posts here??? so i think "JJ" would be a better choice...the other Judy carries around lumber, so i wouldn't mess with her...:>}

have a wonderful holiday weekend..it's gorgeous here in Philly..
