"the thin, platelike structures on the underside of the cap of a mushroom are called gills."

Some thirty years ago I spent several hours in the emergency room as a result of eating a very small piece of a mushroom, one popular name of which is "the green-gilled lepiota" ( Chlorophyllum molybdites)My mushroom book had said, "Some people can eat this and some cannot." Subsequent books simply call it poisonous.

Good training for buying puts.
