Sorry Gentlemen;

I've having some difficulties with my server since mid afternoon and that is why I couldn't respond.

Zeeve;

I am familiar with the problem you mentioned about over designing and over researching. A tendency in all real craftsmen of different kinds toward seeking perfection. I might remind you of my previous post mentioning the founders' idiosyncrasies. This problem in VLNC sounds very much like Al Shugart. He is a a lover of R & D having spent half his life in the lab. He definitely shows this tendency and it was one of the reasons he was fired at Seagate. He committed 1/2 billion for research when the company was hemorrhaging. They produce the best disk drives in the world but right after he was canned the new management brought the Cheetah line on stream and cut back research costs. It is what turned Seagate around in 6 mos. I agree with you about what your approach might be but my questions are more directed at their approach, as we know it, from the scant evidence that we have.
