>>In any event, I doubt there was a divine hand anywhere in that war. Seems thoroughly human to me.<< let's see... strange events of WW2: 1) failure of germany to destroy BEF at Dunkirk 2) luftwaffe switches from bombing airfileds to bombing cities, saving the beleaguered RAF. 3) Hitler decides not to take Lenningrad when the road is open 4) ... goes for Kiev instead of Moscow when the road is open 5) ... obsession with oil leads to Stalingrad defeat 6) No US carriers at Pearl when the Japanese bombed.. comes back to bite the Japanese navy big time, first at Coral Sea (a turning back of forces) then at Midway (complete destruction of Japanese main carriers by US carriers which weren't at Pearl on 7/12/41) 7) Hitler puts atomic research on back burner 8) failure of germans to exploit huge gap in Russian line after 3rd battle of Karkhov... 9) failure of Germans to pursue Kursk attack at the moment of possible victory because of allied invasion of Sicily...(again hitler's decision) It could be I just like to type about WW2, and you gave me an opening, but are the above events and others unmentioned here at least worth pause for consideration? As a Christian, I'm led to trust Christ's/Yahweh's judgement, even though admittedly it doesn't make sense a lot of the time. There is an interesting story about the war: A british evangelist had started a training center for other evangelists in England. When the war came about, not a single one of his students was drafted into military service. This in an of itself is strange, given the severe manpower shortages suffered by Britain at the time. In the autumn of 1942, these evangelists were "led by the Spirit" to pray regarding the battle of Stalingrad, which was then just beginning. The Spirit also told these men that, "I'm using the Germans to bring judgement upon the Russians, and then they too shall be destroyed." Take it as you will but that's a story... one of many such occurances laced throughout human history... FWIW Andy
