<<"THAT GUY">> said exactly what I suggested--- prepare but do not go overboard!

<<"..top priority is averting a 'public overreaction''">> and this is exactly hat some are doing intentionally or not.... instilling fear.

Seems <<"THAT GUY">> and I are on the same wave length!

<<"P.S. John - Out of curiousity ... with all of these accusations of motivation ... where
do you think I fit in? ">>

I do not accuse anyone nor do I care what anyone does. You may actually believe riots and chaos will start in the US in Jan. Some people find a "cause" to save fellow man from. You may just have time on your hands and love to cut & paste. If you found anything directed at you in that post you should ask yourself <<"think I fit in? ">> instead of asking me. My whole point was to suggest all take some precautions but do not give into all the BS and hype as there will be problems but not enough to mount a .50 cal in the dormer awaiting the herds of nerds....
Enough of this,, there are real problems in this country and the world without blowing things out of wack. (but I'll not be out of the country either <ggg>)
More than enough of this ---

What IS this guys agenda, huh?

Cheryl, I think you know what his agenda is.... It's to be part of the solution, not the problem.

He well understands that Y2K is not nearly as serious a danger as will be the reaction to it by people like you and I.

We can cut our own economic throats far more effectively than any temporary nationwide cascading power blackout. History has proved this back in the 1930's when 1/2 of all US banks went under, including some very conservative institutions that were considered "sound".

So what would you tell the US public Cheryl, were you in his place??

I know, and you know, people who have worked with Koskinen. None have ever impugned his personal integrity from what I've seen. They certainly don't consider him someone who would likely seek to say things that may panic the public.

The public is aware of Y2K. They may not know how much of a problem it will or will not be, especially overseas, or the impact that may have on the US economy. But I they would not like to face a situation where a sudden lack of confidence in the financial and economic systems becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy as it did for Asian economies several years ago.

Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

Regards,

Ron
