I'm mainly into paddling on creeks or smaller rivers and lakes, but I like going "swamping". That's where you get to see some of the best birds, turtles, etc...and you rarely run into the more obnoxious boaters and those miserable Seadoo things. I'm sometimes quite shocked at how little regard many boaters have for people in kayaks and canoes. It almost seems like some of them go out of their way to see if they can swamp you. The places that you describe seem as though they would be teeming with power boats, etc... I don't know if I'd feel entirely comfortable there either. Sure would like to try some sea-kayaking in Steve's part of the world though... Sounds like paradise to me..(-:
