I love the sound of fog horns, too. When I lived in New Orleans, I always lived close enough to the Mississippi to hear the river noise. Motors of push boats pushing herds of barges upriver. Deep booms when boats docked. Bangs like tailgates when the boats let down their gangways. And the horns.

They have to sound their horns before they pass. Ish probably knows the rules of the road, I think it's once for port and twice for starboard, I think it's the upriver boat that sounds which side it's going to pass on, because it's moving faster and has less time to maneuver.

And then the fog horns. Such a lonesome sound.
