The interesting thing about the TNT2 is that I haven't seen any adds or other signs that it is out. I'll look in tomorrow's paper, but 3dfx made a much bigger splash with the Voodoo3.

I also haven't seen many posts from new owners of the TNT2. The ones I have seen have tons of dissapointment expressed in them (mainly that 32 bit is really slow).

I think I know why Hercules has a better TNT2 Ultra card.

<speculation>
It's because they got some help from nVidia who wants them to become the top choice for hard core gamers. And why? Because nVidia's thinking of merging with them.
</speculation>

Hercules is privately held, has a widely known and respected name, and have been around long enough to probably have a few useful patents. They haven't been important for a long while now, and a merger would put them back in the limelight. It would be attractive to both sides.

But I'm only guessing.
