Sun has to some extent done this.
They have their "dot-com" ads on TV and magazines. Nevertheless,
they are clumsy and not as well focused as, say, IBM's. Indeed,
they let IBM eat their lunch. For decades IBM was pushing their
expensive proprietary communications solutions and then a few
years ago IBM faked 'finding' the Internet. But, as par usual,
the fake perception triumphed over reality. Why? Because IBM
will create turnkey solutions for businesses. No thinking, no
skill; just turn the key. No, you can't usually get fired for
buying IBM.

Sun could compete with IBM for this lucrative business. With
lower prices and honest ads focused at the same clientele.
Sun also has the advantage of going after more sophisticated
management. This is not 1964 where computer systems were
purchased purely on the basis of golf games. Although this
is debatable.
