It does very little good to continue to bring up atrocities that occurred in a nation's past. The past cannot be changed, so let's not fool ourselves. For every act of terrorism or brutality committed by one side, another can be identified being committed by the other. The issue is not who is to blame for decades and centuries of violence, but rather how do we solve the problem and stop the current killing. We can sit here and blame Milosevic and his cronies for the violent breakup of Yugoslavia and point out every incident of violence they permitted to be perpetrated in their "name". Or we can simply say, enough is enough, and we have to put a stop to this nonsense before it destabilizes an entire region of Europe and creates the potential for greater warfare to break out amongst neighbors (who still don't trust or really like each other). That is what I think we stated belatedly this spring. Even though no one attempted to indict Milo for war crimes perpetrated in Bosnia, and the UN/NATO attempted to deal with him diplomatically, he chose to continue to pursue policies that threatened neighboring nations and defied the stated goals of promoting peace and tolerance in the region. There is no doubt that civil wars and blood/soil conflicts are messy and it is difficult to determine who is worth fighting for and who isn't. I'm seeing people bringing up the Albanian organized crime as if to suggest that there isn't organized crime in Serbia or in the US for that matter. To try to say that all Kosovar Albanians are criminals and thus, unworthy of being defended against a Serbian pogrom, is nothing more than vain attempts to justify ignoring the humanitarian and political consequences of Milosevic's actions. Emile, I think we all realize the world is not black and white. There are endless shades of gray in between. One man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist. For you to claim that Israel is the most fascist regime in the world today is 1.) to ignore Israel's SOCIALIST traditions, and 2.) to ignore the fact that some 1.6 million Israeli ARABS have the right to vote as citizens, and played an INSTRUMENTAL ROLE in Barak's victory over Netanyahu. So why don't you get a grip, and stop trying to feed us your BS about how shocked you are that the world isn't some form of Utopia where people don't do bad things to one another. BTW, can you tell us which nation was the first to recognize Israel's independence?? That will tell you just how much a hotbed of "fascism" Israel has been. Regards, Ron
