Mark, Thanks for the reply.

I have been using Norton's utilities with no problem. Now for the problem......

I re-started my computer in the safe mode and ran Norton Disk doctor.
Don't know what that did but the "unknown disk utility" is no longer active and I have been able to Defrag with no problem. Thanks again.
