Sorry to infer anything from your post . . . IMO, you did make a broad generalization and infer that that somehow Amazon was destined to catapult to the top of some imagined pinnacle somehow analogous to DELL.

While we are both dealing with broad characterizations and assumptions, what is your assumption for gross margins and profitability for Amazon in five years? Is it vastly ahead of the company's own "guidance" and analysts estimates? Why do you think the market should reward Amazon's stock today for a risky hypothetical profit several years from now? Right now, all that anyone knows for certain is that Amazon can grow at the same pace as the Internet if they give away products (profits). When in the history of DELL, CPQ, IBM, MSFT were they ever valued at anywhere near such forward looking, acid tripping levels?

IMO, you are making broad and tenuous connections and assumptions and using them to mask over-speculation in the outcome.

IBM is leading the internet revolution, and has grasped the internet in a way that very few
bluechip companies have.

And I cant stop kicking myself for missing IBM. It was right under my nose. As a computer programmer, I have been astonished by the fervor by which IBM has embraced the Java platform and the net. That should have told me something.
