It didn't seem strange at all not to be in class all the time. I loved it from the first day. In my case, I did follow my natural interests: photography, museums/etc., literature, history, following current events. You do have to be motivated to do things and learn and not have it be a reason to sit and watch the tube. If you're daughter still enjoys reading the way you've spoken of, I wouldn't think her curiosity is dead.
