Are you saying that it is hard to grow tomatoes in SF, or only that you don't have soil?

I can assure you that trying to grow tomatoes right on the water with the chilly salt wind coming off the Pacific (or in our case the Strait of Juan de Fuca) is even more challenging! Cherry tomatoes are about the best I can do, and then only if I'm lucky.
