DWDM to the METRO. Ramifications for Fibre Channel?

The author of this series of posts of an article on DWDM is of the opinion that the article was worthy of discussion on many threads. I concur and invite those who want to see a future beyond next week's stock prices to take a glimpse. As for discussion ... uh ... what's there to talk about? It all seems pretty obvious to me that when DWDM comes to the metro, we get MetroSANs. <g>

"Carriers also should consider whether a DWDM allows them to run such high-margin apps as Escon (Enterprise System Connection), Ficon (Fiber Connectivity Channel), and Fibre Channel. Escon and Ficon are mainframe protocols used by banks, insurance companies, and large utilities; they run at 200 Mbit/s and 1.06 Gbit/s. Fibre Channel, which is used to build storage-area networks, runs at 1.06 Gbit/s."
