Your report reminds me of the conspiracy under every rock interpretation of history. Find some corroboration of a pet theory and then assert it as the sole cause. The run on the money post could not have gotten in gear unless there was a tapped out condition across the economy caused by too much infrastructure investment before the infrastructure had a chance to generate future revenue streams. It doesn't matter which particular bank or other entity was first to crack. To assert there was a machination underneath that particular event is a long populist tradition in this country. It is created to justify the construction of more socialist solutions.

The particulars about Rockefeller's alleged attempt to destroy Union is quaint and doesn't agree with other observers. Consider, would you be willing to let your copper company drop 80% in its stock price in order to eliminate the competition? That decline in Amalgated had to do with other factors like rising mining costs without alleviation due to economies of scale reached. You're reading historians who got their view from yellow dog journalists.
