Ah, what a wonderfully insightful post, Sam. My sentiments exactly, although I do not express them as well as you do.

Sam,

Do you think the church should bow down and offer a humble apology to Sam the Great who has figured out the real agenda of the church? What a wise fellow you are! Why.. your the first one to figure out that the bible was written by the Romans in order to control the slave market. Truly a Sherlock you are for busting that case wide open.

BTW why are you sending me to the Ask God thread since that is where you post 90% of your garbage?

Chris

I'm dazzled, Sam. Really dazzled. It could be Robert Ingersoll. We've missed you here.

Sam, well said, but one more point needs to be made. Why is it, when the Bible is demonstrably wrong on so many points of fact, that true believers continue to characterize it as the word of god? Not only is it wrong on points of fact, but it is internally inconsistent.

Maybe that's its appeal. After all, with the Bible as an authority you can justify any behavior you desire, from child abuse to genocide, from rape to torture. Lying, cheating, theft, ... all are condoned by the "Good Book".

CTC

Sam,
Do you have children? If so are they perfect? Have they at some time not lied, or have they been guilty of stealing, or how about gossiping? How about just plain ole "sin". Yes
yours have and so have mine. So did
the people in the Bible. All real stories related to real people like you Sam. Do you love your children less because of something you told then not to do? Do you try to teach them right from wrong, or were they born knowing everything and needing no help at all! What kind of parent would you be if you let your children
continue to hurt and abuse. Would it not be your young ones in the end who
would eventually pay for their past
mistakes. You don't want that do you?
You as a parent try to stop the bad behavior quickly before it gets larger. Would you throw them "out" because you weren't satisfied with their behavior? Or would you try to teach them a lesson than would make them a better person. If you loved your children you would let them learn their lessons for their future!
God allows us to choose our future, and when we behave badly he teaches us a lesson. Read the stories in the Bible again Sam, and think of God as
knowing all that is and will be Sam.
He also loves you Sam even though you kick and fight and try to run away. You can't Sam. It bothers you or else it would not weight so heavily on
your mind.
Ann A.
