MileHigh,

Can you comment on the Timna news? Sounds as if INTC is still committed to RMBS as they would not try and stake out this territory with RMBS unless they see very real benefits!?

The principle benefit of DRDRAM for Timna is the narrow data path, which translates to a smaller pin count. On a PCOAC device, the pin count can make the difference between the product being economical or not.

Unfortunately, there is a paradox. If DRDRAM modules were lower cost, they would be ideal for high volume, low cost Timna based PC's. DRDRAM prices being what they are, it is not an economical solution. The only way for DRDRAM to become lower cost is to be manufactured in large volumes. So the paradox is: The price can't come down without the volume increasing, and the volume can't increase without the price coming down.

It seems likely that DRDRAM will make a slow transition- first in graphics, and later moving into mainstream and embedded applications.
