Jp, one of the actual advantages of home schooling is that when a child is interested in a particular subject he or she pursues it vigorously and intensely, not limited by the rigors of six classes in a day or the inherent destruction of curiosity that system brings for many students. And it exploring autism and the eye, I bet you were actually learning about many different subjects at the same time--reading, psychology, biology, history at the very least--and it was utterly painless and full of joy at the same time. That is exactly what home schooling is about when it works.

Thorny maleness? That about says it behaviorally, physically, sexually, as a psychic shield, and in all sorts of other ways, doesn't it? That's why I love the phrase so much.
