But only the following seems to contain some real news. -woodside techweb.com CMOS LDO regulator touts high accuracy, low current Mountain View, Calif. - TelCom Semiconductor Inc.'s TC1268, a 500-mA fixed-output, CMOS low-dropout (LDO) regulator for battery-operated systems, boasts a high accuracy of typically plus/minus 0.5 percent. TelCom said the LDO's supply current doesn't increase with load current, which is not the case with bipolar regulators. The result is a typical total supply current 20 to 60 times lower than that of bipolar regulators. CMOS construction eliminates wasted ground current and significantly extends battery life, according to product marketing manager Patrick Maresca. The TC1268 is stable with a 1-microfarad output capacitor and has a guaranteed output current capable of supplying 500 mA to the load. It incorporates overtemperature and overcurrent protection. Additional features include low dropout voltage typically 350 mV at full load, and a fast response to large step changes in load current. The company said the device is well-suited for applications involving Rambus memory modules because of its fast (5-microsecond typical) turn-on response when released from shutdown to the fully enabled operating mode.
