Agreed that many countries do not want genetically engineered vegetables et al. What I am questioning is how much of this aversion is prejudice. And I am not taking a stand here. I know that I do not know enough to have a decision yet.

For example, I am a bit nervous about cloning sheep. On the other hand, as I posted a while ago, smallpox vaccinations made many people very uneasy at first. They considered the introduction of such a substance unnatural. We might find this stance today to be foolish, but at the time it was a reasoned unease.

Blue, do you know whether my impression that the food industry has managed to make it unlawful to label food as NOT genetically engineered is correct? I know there was a fight over this issue; I just don't recall how it turned out. (If it's the case that such a regulation has been passed, I will wonder next whether there is anyone on the thread who thinks that was fair.)
